This superb chateau, dating from the 15th century and situated in the center of L‚ognan, was acquired by Mrs Garcin-Cathiard in the early 1990's. Important renovation works and the construction of three new chais were carried out in order to rehabilitate the domain. The 29 hectares of the estate are not all in production. 21 hectares are vinified in red and 3 in white. The vineyard, exposed due south on a rich slope, benefits from a gravel soil with a clayey-siliceous subsoil, conditions that allow the wine to develop its "finesse" and bouquet.
Region: Bordeaux
Bordeaux is the largest fine wine-making region in the world ? with 284,320 acres of A.O.C. vines ? as well as the most legendary. Its sterling reputation is built mostly on red wines. But Bordeaux doesn't just mean reds. The region also produces a wide range of other excellent wines, including dry and sweet whites, ros‚ and clairet, and a sparkling wine called Cr‚mant de Bordeaux.
The great diversity of microclimates and soils (clay, gravel, chalk, limestone) are ideally suited to Bordeaux's different grape varieties including the Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot.
The richness and elegance of Bordeaux wines is the result of subtle blending of these different grape varieties, combined with centuries of experience, the skills of local winemakers and on-going research by oenologists (wine scientists) and technicians. With 57 appellations, more than 9,000 wine-producing chƒteau, and 13,000
